We're afraid to love ourselves because of what others will think of us. That, in itself, is vain; always thinking of how you appear to others. I can guarantee you will always point out the negatives before even thinking of the things you love about yourself. But that's how everyone thinks. We all go through these things but we sometimes forget.
There's a difference between Self-love/esteem and Narcissism.
Narcissism is the means of thinking you are superior, you crave attention and admiration. Narcissism is more based on how you want other people to view you. It's caused by your weaknesses, insecurities, and the fear of failure.
Self-love/esteem is the means of knowing yourself, feeling greatness, humbleness. Self-love is purely based around reflecting upon yourself, by yourself. It's caused by your values, a sense of capability and your skills.
